Shannon,

Take time to breathe! You have a message that God will use over and over to help others who are hurting. What a great honor and privileged it is to help you deliver this message. It's a journey...keep taking that next step.

Praying for you

Thank you Judee,
Yes I'm looking into that now in regards to the contract breech. I've been hearing talk of a class action suit. Im not opposed to that, considering they made money off of a book that directly benefits survivors of the abuses they cause.

Tell your friend Cindy I'm sorry she is going through this as well.
Blessings

I'm sure you are doing what you can, as well as your attorney. Just a thought: since they in essence hid their cult status, could that not be considered engaging in a contract by fraudulent means? I'm sure they knew you would never agree to the contract had you known up front about the "cult" which was a hidden fact.

I am a friend of Cindy, who is also struggling with this. Maybe you should get a class action going.

I wish you success.

HOW HORRIBLE! I can understand not wanting anything to do with them! I am so sorry. Have you tried OSV or Ignatius Press for publishing your book? I will keep throwing ideas at you and as you know, they will mainly be Catholic. :) Hang in there.

I think it is important to include a comment made from a reader that was left for me in a message on my FaceBook page. It opened my eyes to something that I didn't recognize before:

"I thought I’d write you – not to criticize your decisions but to give you the perspective of another gay woman trying to live as Christ-like as I can.

Peter Kreeft made a good point about the “love the sinner, hate the sin” mentality in one of his talks on homosexuality. While it may be a person’s most honest attempt at compassion, it often leaves the recipient feeling bereft of love. For example, if someone told you, “Shannon, I love you, but I hate that you’re Catholic. I think it’s a sin, and it disagrees with every fiber of my being”, you might have a hard time extracting love from that statement. Now I’m sure you’ve never spoken to your sister so harshly and perhaps you think I’m exaggerating, but my sexual orientation is as integral to my personhood as being Catholic is. The Church has tried its darndest to tease out homosexual orientation as one small part of a person’s identity, so that when it is referred to as an “intrinsic disorder”, it doesn’t appear to be an attack on one’s personhood. But, truly, nothing makes a person feel more isolated than when the love that they desire to only be a reflection of the self-sacrificing love of Jesus is classified as a moral evil that will lead to the destruction of society."

I hadn't thought about that statement 'codemn the sin but love the sinner' extracted such hurt...especially when I see myself as a sinner too, regardless if I'm heterosexual I have my own sins that I know others wouldn't condone. It is something to consider when in this type of discussion.

Blessings

Well said. Many people have similar situations and hopefully choose love. I believe in boycotts and many are successful, yet the people who partake need to know the organization who is calling for the boycott and should agree somewhat with what that organization stands for...more than just their current forum. It scares me, recent events and mob mentality, that organizations that call for violence against s/s couples are the same ones calling for the boycott hiding behind religionists. So, in essence, where I may not agree with someone's home situation, I am heartbroken and infuriated at the same time that key speakers for this organization condone violence while hiding behind Christian values. I could no more imagine standing by while a loved one is physically attacked. We are not following Him when we choose this way.

Even if the state were to somehow try to make it legal, it would still not be a marriage and it would not satisfy our rules of being married/sharing the same room while visiting. From what I have experienced, when you speak out in truth, such as a marriage is between one man and one woman, you are labeled as religious or to a set of conservative ideas when this is based on natural law first. I know I don't like divisions but sometimes they are inevitable. But speaking the truth is seen as hateful to some. Some will respect the beliefs of others for the family sake, and some will not. I have experienced both and the choice is ours and doesn't mean we love them any less - or I don't at least.

Well said, "H"...and I did know you would be reading. ;) Know this though, we are ALL sinners...I wasn't saying just those who are gay. ;) That's my point, I suppose...we should love one another, our sins (whatever they might be), are something we all face with God. We don't condone but yet we all commit them.
Thank you for your response and thank you for the comment Family is Family...and at this point I think we have another member we need to worry a whole lot more about than two people who love each other!

Blessings

Hello Shannon,

As you know I read your blog as you write it. I want to first start by saying you are in titled to your opinion no matter who tells you otherwise. This matter isn't easy for a lot to deal with by any means. I would never ask anyone to except something they don't believe in. There are many gay people who would never agree with me on this "saying it ok to have the opinion that we are sinner's or that we shouldn’t be allowed to marry” Don't get me wrong I do believe I am who I am. I can't Change that what so ever. I wouldn't If I could. I love who I am with Whole heartily and wouldn't change a thing. I respect your beliefs; I may not agree with it all but I respect them. “We stay in hotels when we visit you for a reason” lol
As for the comment you made: “I won’t change my sister, and I certainly won’t change her girlfriend. And I won’t allow this to become a family feud that tears a family apart, ostracizing me from my sister, my boys from their cousins and splitting an already torn family into shreds.” I am on the same page with you on this one; I would never let that happen either! If you don’t have family what do you have. The whole gay marriage is a touchy subject for most. It is what it is and one day it may be legal. It should never be a question of Defend or Destroy? Love or Hate? More like Family is Family. Love your family you may not agree with all that they do, But love them anyway.
